Space Travel: Accessible Tourism or a Risky Adventure?
By Kadambari Rao, Class X
Space travel is no longer limited to astronauts; it is now becoming a possible form of public tourism. The idea of space tourism excites many, offering unique experiences such as seeing Earth from space and feeling zero gravity. It could also generate employment and inspire technological progress that benefits life on Earth.
However, there are serious concerns. Frequent rocket launches release large amounts of carbon emissions, harming the environment. The extremely high cost makes it accessible only to the wealthy, increasing inequality. Moreover, space travel carries risks such as accidents, equipment failure, and radiation exposure.
Before investing heavily in space tourism, humanity should prioritise solving pressing issues on Earth, like poverty, healthcare, and education. Space tourism may be an exciting possibility, but until it becomes safer, sustainable, and affordable, it remains a risky luxury rather than a true step forward for humankind.
