Lycopersicon Lycopersicum, commonly known as tomato is an edible, often red, berry belonging to the family Solanaceae. Tomato had been previously placed in the genus Solanum as Solanum Lycopersicum, but later it has been placed in genus Lycopersicon as Lycopersicon Lycopersicum. It is also known as Lycopersicon esculentum.
