sulphate \[\ce{SO4}\] \[\ce{2^-}\]

Step I – Write each symbol with its valency.
Positive ion is written first
\[\ce{K}^{1+}\]  \[\ce{[SO4]}^{2-}\]
Step II – Interchange the valencies and ignoring signs.
