1. The modern periodic table is a classification of elements that results from an arrangement of the elements in increasing order of their atomic numbers. The current periodic table has seven horizontal rows labelled periods 1 through 7. Similarly, groups 1 to 18 are represented by the eighteen Vertical columns in this table.
2. The periodic table is divided into four sections: the s-block, the p-block, the d-block, and the f-block. The groups 1 and 2 are contained within the s-block. The p-block is made up of groups 13 through 18. The d-block is made up of groups 3 to 12, whereas the lanthanide and actinide series at the bottom make up the f-block. Transition elements are the d-block elements.
