उत्तर
Haryana’s agricultural prosperity is largely dependent on canal irrigation. Canals irrigate roughly half of Haryana’s irrigated land. For any state, this is the greatest proportion. Following are the main canals.
- The Western Yamuna Canal: At Tajewala, it departs from the Yamuna’s right bank. In the 1800s, Feroze Shah Tughlak constructed it. The canal and its distributaries span 3,200 km in total, irrigating over 4 lakh hectares in the districts of Ambala, Kamal, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Rohtak, Hissar, and Jind. The Delhi, Hansi, and Sirsa branches are among its significant branches.
- Bhakra Canal: The Bhakra canal irrigates much of Hissar, Fatehabad, and Sirisa districts after entering Haryana close to Tohana and Punjab. The Fatehabad, Ratia, Rori, Barwala, and Tohana branches are its principal branches.
- Jui Canal: This lift irrigation system was created to irrigate Bhiwani’s semidesert region and the surrounding districts. About 32,000 hectares are irrigated by this 169-kilometer canal.
- Gurgaon Canal: It departs from the Yamuna at a Delhi Okhla. This canal, which was established in 1970, irrigates 1.2 lakh hectares in the districts of Faridabad and Gurgaon.
