उत्तर
Human settlement patterns in both India and Brazil are greatly influenced by physical terrain, climate, and historical development, resulting in very unequal population distributions. Because of the flat landscape, abundant water supply, and rich agricultural soils, dense, nucleated (compact) communities are primarily concentrated in India’s fertile northern plains of the Ganga River basin, coastal flatlands, and industrialised southern states. In contrast, India’s dispersed or sparse communities are found in the rugged Himalayan mountains, the parched Thar Desert, and the dissected forested hills of central India.
Brazil’s settlements are concentrated along its eastern and southeastern Atlantic coastline, particularly in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, where early European colonisation, flat coastal plains, robust transportation networks, and mineral richness led to large metropolitan clusters. Meanwhile, Brazil’s interior has extremely sparse and dispersed settlements; the massive Amazon River basin is sparsely populated due to dense tropical rainforests, an unhealthy equatorial climate, and poor accessibility, whereas the Northeast Highlands (Drought Quadrilateral) are under-settled due to severe, recurring water shortages.
