About 1,50,000 persons died instantly as a result of the bombing of Hiroshima, and almost three-fourths of the city’s buildings were destroyed. About 50,000 people died at Nagasaki as well, and almost one-third of the city was destroyed. On August 14, 1945, Japan submitted to the Allied Powers because she could not afford to suffer this devastation.
