Harshavardhan ascended the throne in AD 606. He shifted his capital from Thanesar to Kanauj. He conquered Punjab, eastern Rajasthan and Ganga valley. Harsha was a great patron of art and was a good writer. He wrote three plays in Sanskrit-Ratnavali, Priyadarshika, and Nagananda.
