The news of the collapse of the bank spread through Pipalnagar like wildfire and people rushed to the bank to withdraw their money. By noon, the bank had exhausted all its ready cash. This put the manager of the bank in a dilemma because emergency funds could only be obtained from another bank that was thirty miles away and he wasn’t sure that he would be able to convince the crowd to wait that long. He was also worried because he had no way of contacting the owner of the bank, Seth Govind Ram, on his houseboat in Kashmir.
