Colonel Heron was urged to deal with Puli Thevar, who kept denying the company’s authority. Puli Thevar carried significant power over the western Palayakkarars. Heron was forced to abandon the plan due to a lack of cannons, supplies, and pay for soldiers. He retired in Madurai. He was then recalled and removed from service.
