उत्तर

All map projections have some amount of distortion because the Earth is a three-dimensional, slightly flattened sphere, while maps are shown on a two-dimensional flat surface. It is impossible to transfer the Earth’s curved surface onto a flat map without changing some features. Different map projections are designed to preserve certain properties, such as shape, area, distance, or direction, while distorting others. For example, the Mercator projection maintains shapes and directions fairly well but greatly enlarges the size of areas near the poles.
