प्रश्न
Why are antibiotics not effective for viral disease?
Advertisements
उत्तर
Antibiotics work by blocking the biosynthetic pathways of the pathogen such as bacteria, without affecting the diseased person. In the case of viruses, they have very few biochemical pathways of their own. They use the metabolic machinery of the host and then reproduce. Thus, antibiotics cannot block any of their own biochemical pathways and are not effective for viral diseases.
