उत्तर
The reason is that the speed of light in air is 3 × 108 ms−1 which is much larger as compared to the speed of sound in air 3 × 102 ms−1. Hence light takes almost negligible time in comparison to sound in reaching us from the gun.

If the amplitude of a wave is doubled, what will be the effect on its loudness?
State the factors that determine
(a) the pitch of a note.
(b) the loudness of the sound heard.
(c) the quality of the note.
Draw a diagram to show the wave pattern of high pitch note and a low pitch note, but of the same loudness.
How do you account for the fact that two strings can be used to give notes of the same pitch and loudness but of different quality?
The frequency of the stretched string of a fixed length is f when it is plucked in the middle. Where should it be plucked so that string vibrates with frequency (i) 2f, (ii) 3f?
Draw diagrams to show these vibrations and name them.
