उत्तर
Some primitive autotrophic bacteria developed chlorophyll-like pigments (bacteriochlorophylls), allowing them to use sunlight for energy to synthesize carbohydrates, performing photosynthesis without oxygen (anaerobic photoautotrophy). Marine planktonic sulfur bacteria existing today are examples of such photosynthetic autotrophs. This development represented an important evolutionary step as it introduced energy capture from light even in the absence of oxygen.
