उत्तर

The shape-selective catalysis of zeolites arises from their unique structural features. Zeolites have a highly porous aluminosilicate framework containing interconnected one-, two-, or three-dimensional channels and cavities of molecular dimensions (typically 260-740 pm). These uniform pore sizes allow only suitably sized reactant molecules to enter, while excluding larger ones, leading to size- and shape-dependent selectivity. This governs both adsorption and reaction processes. Additionally, the negatively charged framework, balanced by exchangeable cations, enhances catalytic activity. Thus, the molecular-sized pores and charged framework make zeolites highly shape-selective catalysts.
