उत्तर
The U.S. House of Representatives has a special role in the election of the American President if no candidate secures a majority of the electoral votes, which is at least 270 out of 538. In such a case, the responsibility of electing the President falls to the House. However, the voting is done by states, not individual members. Each state delegation in the House gets one vote, regardless of its population or number of representatives. The House must choose the President from among the top three candidates with the highest electoral votes, and a majority of the states (at least 26 out of 50) must support a candidate for them to be elected. This process has been used only twice in American history, in 1800 and in 1825, highlighting the House’s important constitutional role in ensuring a President is chosen when the Electoral College result is inconclusive.
