What is the role of CPCB?

• Advise the Central Government on the prevention, control, and abatement of air pollution.
• Plan and execute nationwide programmes for prevention, control, and abatement of air pollution.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to State Pollution Control Boards and other agencies.
• Carry out and sponsor investigations, research and monitoring (including ambient air quality monitoring).
• Collect, compile, and publish technical and statistical data on pollution.
• Set standards for air quality (the National Ambient Air Quality Standards were notified by CPCB on 18 November 2009).
