उत्तर

  1. The gametes that take part in sexual reproduction must always be haploid.
  2. Otherwise, the specific chromosome number of a species cannot remain constant. For example, human parents normally have 46 chromosomes (2n = 46) in their body cells.
  3. If meiosis does not occur during gamete formation, the resulting gametes will also carry 46 chromosomes instead of half.
  4. Consequently, the fusion of these gametes would produce an offspring with 92 chromosomes (46 + 46 = 92).
  5. Such an abnormal and increased number of chromosomes will cause severe biological defects and abnormalities.
  6. However, because meiosis takes place, the gametes formed are successfully haploid (n). This ensures that the chromosome number remains perfectly constant for every generation of a species, making the haploid nature of gametes a vital biological fact.
