उत्तर

“Dykes” (also spelled “dikes”) are geological formations that occur when magma from beneath the earth’s surface cools and solidifies within vertical cracks and fissures in the bedrock. These vertical intrusive structures are formed as the magma rises upward toward the earth’s crust and then solidifies in these fractures. Essentially, dykes are sheets of igneous rock that cut across the existing rock layers. They are distinct from sills, which are similar intrusions but formed horizontally between rock layers.
