A geyser is a fountain of hot spring that intermittently spouts jets of steam and hot water. It erupts periodically, blasting hot boiling water high into the air. Geysers are rare natural features, with about 1000 found worldwide; the maximum number are in Iceland. The term “geyser” comes from the Icelandic word “geysir, meaning “to gush”.
