Marie Curie was born as Maria Sklodowska in Warsaw, Poland, on 7^th November 1867. She belonged to a poor family but dreamed of studying science in Paris.

To earn money, she worked as a governess and saved enough to study at the Sorbonne (University of Paris). Even after joining the university, she faced poverty and often suffered from hunger because of her financial difficulties.
