Embryo development, or embryogeny, is the formation of the young plant from the zygote by mitotic divisions. The early embryo forms a suspensor and an embryo proper, passes through stages such as the globular and heart-shaped stages, and differentiates into the embryonal axis, cotyledons, plumule and radicle.
