उत्तर

The three types of non-mulberry silk produced in India are:

  1. Tasar Silk: Produced mainly by silkworms that feed on trees such as Asan and Arjun. It has a rich texture and a copperish colour, and is largely harvested by tribal communities in states such as Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
  2. Muga Silk: It is highly unique because of its brilliant natural golden-yellow colour and is almost exclusively manufactured in Assam. It is known for its exceptional durability and glossy lustre.
  3. Eri Silk: Produced by silkworms that feed primarily on castor leaves. Unlike other silks, it is gathered without killing the pupa (hence the name “peace silk” or ahimsa silk), and it has a soft, warm, wool-like texture.
