उत्तर

  1. Scarcity of High-Quality Raw Material: India is experiencing a long-staple cotton crisis, forcing the sector to import premium-grade fibres from other countries. Frequent pest infestations (such as the pink bollworm) and erratic monsoon cycles result in unreliable domestic yields and volatile raw cotton prices.
  2. Old and Outdated Machinery: A significant portion of the weaving and processing industries, particularly small-scale powerlooms and handlooms, still relies on older technology and machinery. As a result, production suffers, energy consumption rises, and global competitors’ high-speed, advanced automated mills become incapable.
  3. Erratic Power Supply and High Input Costs: Frequent power outages and variable electricity tariffs interrupt mill operations, raising manufacturing costs. Furthermore, the industry faces intense competition from less expensive synthetic fibers (such as polyester) and rising low-cost overseas textile hubs like Bangladesh and Vietnam.
