What are the different usages of Kinship?

1. The members of a kin group see themselves as closely related because of their common biological origin. However, in any society, just having biological ties isn’t enough.
2. Living closely together, they develop specific behaviours that give meaning and structure to their kinship identities. Different types of behaviour are expected depending on the degree, type, and lineage of the relationship. For example, brothers and sisters keep some distance as they grow up, while sisters may remain close.
3. Siblings of the same age play and fight differently than unrelated boys, and respect for elders is always shown. Although some of these customs have faded, many remain part of social life.
4. Anthropologists have identified several consistent kinship usages: Avoidance, Joking relationships, Technonymy, Avunculate, amitates, and couvades. These practices reflect how kinship shapes interaction and social rules in family life.
