3. Same direction: Relative speed = x – y.

Meeting time = 8 h.

So `x - y = 16/8 = 2`.

4. Solve the system:

x + y = 8

x – y = 2

Add: 2x = 10

⇒ x = 5 km/h.

Then y = 8 – x

= 8 – 5

= 3 km/h

5. Check: Towards each other:

`16/(5 + 3) = 16/8`

Same direction:
