The digital divide refers to the gap between those who have access to technology, such as the internet and digital devices, and those who do not. This disparity has significantly impacted education, especially for students from marginalised segments, by limiting their ability to access online resources and virtual classes.

Subject: Addressing the digital divide in education.

Sir/Madam,

Through your esteemed newspaper, I wish to highlight the growing concern of the digital divide, which has severely impacted the education system. Many students, especially from marginalised communities, lack access to digital devices, the internet, and online learning platforms. This has widened the learning gap, causing students to fall behind in studies while teachers struggle to maintain uniform progress in classrooms.

To bridge this gap, the government and schools must collaborate to provide low-cost devices, free or subsidised internet plans, community digital learning centres, and regular digital literacy programmes. Public–private partnerships can also help ensure equitable access to online educational resources.

It is crucial to address this divide urgently to ensure inclusive and fair education for all.

Yours faithfully,
Sakshi Tripathi
