Let age of Gopal = x years

∴ Age of his father = (x + 26) years

According to the sum,

x + x + 26 = 56

⇒ 2x + 26 = 56

⇒ 2x = 56 - 26 = 30

⇒ x = `30/2 = 15`

∴ Age of Gopal = 15 years

and age of his father = 15 + 26 = 41 years
