The diagrams (a) and (b) given alongside are plug and socket with arrows marked 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 respectively. Identify and write live (L), neutral (N) and earth (E) against the correct number on your answer sheet.

In a three-pin plug, the top pin is earth, the lower-left pin is live and the lower-right pin is neutral. Therefore, 1 → E, 2 → L, 3 → N.

In a three-pin socket, the upper hole is earth, the left hole is neutral and the right hole is live. Therefore, 4 → E, 5 → N, 6 → L.
