An “Eri” (often called an Eri system) is a traditional rain‑water harvesting tank or temple‑pond used in Tamil Nadu for local water management. Eris are built with embankments on three sides and one open side that admits runoff; they receive water from their catchment via feeder channels and often have trees planted on the bunds to stabilise them.
