Tax on imports is one type of trade barrier. The government could also place a limit on the number of goods that can be imported. This is known as quotas. Can you explain, using the example of Chinese toys, how quotas can be used as trade barriers? Do you think this should be used? Discuss.

उत्तर

A quota is a numerical restriction on the amount or value of specific goods that can be imported or exported over a given time period. If the Indian government puts a restriction on Chinese toy imports, only a limited number of Chinese toys will be allowed into the nation. Quotas will limit the supply of Chinese toys, making them scarcer and more expensive on the market. This will provide a break for Indian toy manufacturers. As a result, quotas help protect domestic toy manufacturers in India by limiting competition from Chinese imports.

I think the quota can be used as a protective measure to protect our local toy makers, but it should be done properly in order to strike a balance that will ensure fair competition between companies.
