A TRIP TO LANSDOWNE
Recently, my mother and I embarked on a journey to Lansdowne, a quaint hill station nestled in the lap of the Uttarakhand hills in northern India. This holiday held a special place in our hearts as it marked our first solo adventure, a departure from the usual family trips with my father and brother. But my brother and father were busy this time, so we left on our own.
We hired a cab and commenced our journey. After six hours drive to reach Lansdowne from New Delhi. We arrived at our residence for the stay, Windsor Cottages. It was a beautiful, old property with traditional Uttarakhand interiors and architecture. It exuded an old-world charm. Surrounded by towering grey oak trees swaying in the Himalayan breeze, it provided a perfect sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation on the city’s outskirts.
The weather was cool, with constant cold winds, which made us yearn for the sun and sit by the fireplace in the evenings. The hotel staff and local people were incredibly hospitable, adding warmth to our serene retreat.
On the first day, early in the morning, we set out for Tip N Top, which is the sunrise point of the hill station. Post lunch at a popular local cafe, we ventured to the Santoshi Maa temple, a vantage point for both sunrise and sunset views. The day ended with a leisurely stroll down Mall Road, known for its. tranquil ambiance, unlike the bustling markets found in other towns. Our immersion into nature and local culture culminated with a visit to the Garhwali Museum, which offered an insightful glimpse into the history of the Garhwali Rifles regiment, showcasing an array of Indian Army artifacts and weapons.
This trip to Lansdowne was a much-needed respite from the daily grind, providing not just a break from my academic stresses but also a peaceful and rewarding experience, shared intimately with my mother.
