- The President may promulgate an Ordinance when Parliament is not in session, and he is satisfied that immediate action is necessary (Article 123).
- An Ordinance becomes inoperative when Parliament reassembles, and it is not approved within six weeks of re‑assembly, or earlier if either House passes a resolution disapproving it; it also lapses if replaced by a law.
