I agree that potential appraisal is more important than performance appraisal due to the following reasons.

  1. Potential appraisal helps in developing employees to their full capacity. This is not possible in the case of performance appraisal.
  2. Performance appraisal is more a fault-finding exercise, while potential appraisal is more a motivational exercise.
  3. Performance appraisal is past-oriented, whereas potential appraisal is future-oriented.
  4. Performance appraisal reveals only how an employee has performed the job. Potential appraisal shows what the employee is capable of doing.
