उत्तर
- This method of irrigation is precise and economical.
- While surface irrigation methods rely on watering the whole surface of the field, and overhead irrigation leaves the plants wet and produces runoff, drip irrigation is far more controlled. Water is slowly provided to a very specific area close to the roots of the plant. The flow of water is so slow that it is easily absorbed into the ground.
- Drip irrigation provides water near the base of the plant, leaving the upper foliage dry and less susceptible to fungi.
- When water resources are scarce and costly, a much larger, highly-targeted zone can be watered rather than covering the whole field with water.
- Because the watered zone 'is shadowed by the plant itself, evaporation is minimum.
- The required moisture level in the root zone is maintained, and the plant gets its water from the soil without using much energy. This is an important advantage that facilitates effective growth.
- Fertilizers can also be used via the dripping system. The volume of fertilizers required is low because of specificity.
- The land between the plant rows remains dry and unwanted plant growth is prevented.
