• Competition from substitutes: Products made out of synthetic fibres have replaced jute products. For example, hemp and plastic bags have hit the jute industry in India hard.
• Outdated Machinery: Most of the jute industry is equipped with outdated machinery. This not only results in a high cost of production but also results in low production.
