Mention important uses of bakelite.

1. Low degree of polymerisation leads to the formation of soft bakelites. They are used as bonding glue for laminated wooden planks and in varnishes and lacquers.
2. Bakelites having a high degree of polymerisation are hard. They are used for making combs, fountain pen barrels, phonograph records, electrical goods (e.g., switches and plugs), Formica table-tops, etc. 
3. Sulphonated bakelites are used as ion-exchange resins.
