उत्तर

Aim: To make a miniature model of the Fountain Experiment and understand its working principle.

Materials Required: Dropper, flask, paper straw, water, stand/support and other easily available materials.

Procedure:

  1. Prepare a small model of the fountain experiment using a flask, dropper and paper straw.
  2. Arrange the apparatus so that water can enter the flask through the straw.
  3. Create the required pressure difference inside the flask.
  4. Observe the movement of water and the formation of the fountain.
  5. Present the model in the classroom and explain its working to your classmates and teacher.

Working Principle: The Fountain Experiment demonstrates that hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas is highly soluble in water. When HCl dissolves rapidly in water, the pressure inside the flask decreases. The higher atmospheric pressure outside then pushes water into the flask, producing a fountain-like effect.

Significance: The experiment provides a simple demonstration of the high solubility of HCl gas in water and the resulting pressure difference.
