People’s attention was drawn to the enormous mills, complete with expensive machinery, and they forgot about the bylanes and workshops where production was still taking place.
  2. Figure 2 shows Manchester’s landscape as dominated by chimneys pouring smoke, reflecting the environmental degradation caused by industry. The overall impression is one of dirt, pollution, and difficult working conditions. It emphasises the negative aspects of industrialisation, such as environmental issues, worker exploitation, and social inequality.

The two images provide a valuable contrast that helps us to understand the full impact of industrialisation.
