Abolition of Untouchability:
Article 17 declares that “untouchability is abolished and its practice in any form is forbidden.” The untouchability Offences Act of 1955 provided penalties for preventing a person from entering a place of public worship or taking water from a tank, well, or spring in common use. In 1976, the act was renamed as “the Protection of Civil Rights Act”, from the “Untouchability Offences Act.”
