The Jhansi Flame: Rani Lakshmibai’s Heroic Resistance!

Date: June 1858

Reporter: Vansh Mishra The Hindustan Herald

Jhansi, Bundelkhand Region: Rani Lakshmibai, the courageous queen of Jhansi, strongly resisted the British East India Company during the Revolt of 1857. When the British attempted to annex Jhansi under the Doctrine of Lapse and refused to accept her adopted son Damodar Rao as the rightful heir, the Rani decided to fight against British rule.

Determined to protect her kingdom, she led her army, which included women warriors and loyal sepoys, with great courage and determination. Her bravery and leadership soon made her a symbol of resistance. In June 1858, British forces captured Jhansi after heavy fighting. However, Rani Lakshmibai managed to escape and later joined Tatya Tope and the Nawab of Banda. She continued fighting the British and was eventually killed in battle near Gwalior, dressed as a soldier and fighting bravely until the end. Her courage and sacrifice made her a lasting symbol of strength, resistance, and patriotism.
