How was the Constitution of India framed?

1. A Constituent Assembly was formed in 1946 to draft the Constitution. Its first meeting was held on 9 December 1946. Dr Rajendra Prasad was elected as its President.
2. The Assembly set up many committees to study various subjects, such as fundamental rights, union-state relations, and services.
3. The Drafting Committee, headed by Dr B. R. Ambedkar, prepared the draft of the Constitution.
4. The Assembly discussed and revised the draft carefully, clause by clause, for nearly three years.
5. The Constitution was finally adopted on 26 November 1949 and came into force on 26 January 1950.
