उत्तर

Morale should be differentiated from motivation, though both are psychological concepts. The main differences between motivation and morale are given below:

  1. Meaning: Motivation refers to the act of encouraging individuals to put in effort toward achieving shared objectives. In contrast, morale is a combination of emotions, attitudes, and outlooks held by individuals or groups.
  2. Nature: While motivation is about an individual’s personal drive to work, morale reflects the overall emotional tone or spirit of a group.
  3. Basis: Motivation arises from personal needs and the incentives offered to fulfill them. Morale, on the other hand, is shaped by the quality of relationships and harmony within the team or group.
  4. Mobilisation: Motivation deals with directing a person’s mental and physical efforts toward a specific task. Morale involves engaging emotional support and collective sentiments towards the overall environment or situation.
  5. Means: Motivation can be influenced through both rewards (like bonuses) and consequences (like penalties). Morale, however, can only be fostered through positive methods such as encouragement, support, and a healthy work atmosphere.
  6. Inter-relationship: Generally, when a person is motivated, they also tend to have high morale. However, it’s possible for someone to have high morale without necessarily being strongly motivated to perform a task.
