उत्तर
In its lower course, a river flows sluggishly over a flat, gentle gradient and carries a massive load of sediment. When the river overflows its banks during seasonal floods, it deposits layers of fine silt and alluvial soil across the adjacent valley floor, gradually building up a flat, fertile plain known as a floodplain.
