उत्तर

In Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem Tithonus, Tithonus’s gift of immortality turns into a curse rather than a joy. The gods offer Tithonus ongoing life, but he does not ask for endless youth; his spirit is immortal while his body ages. Tithonus is thereby caught in a never-ending cycle of decline, becoming weaker and older but unable to pass away. As he watches his physical form decay over time, his immortality causes him great agony. The consequences of the gift are severe: Tithonus endures a constant agonizing life without the release of death in instead of eternal joy. He views eternity as a burden rather than a blessing because he yearns for the tranquillity that death would bring. The poem examines the idea that immortality without eternal youth is a harsh and heavy condition through the figure of Tithonus.
