उत्तर

The Kashmir War (1947-1948) came to an end with the intervention of the United Nations (UNO). After the conflict began between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, the Indian government referred the matter to the UNO. The UN brokered a ceasefire between the two countries, which came into effect on January 1, 1949. As a result of the ceasefire, Pakistan retained control over approximately one-third of Kashmir, while India maintained control over the remaining two-thirds, including the more populous and fertile regions. The Line of Control (LoC) was established to demarcate the areas controlled by both countries. Kashmir, however, continued to be a contentious issue between India and Pakistan and remains a significant point of dispute even today.
