As the air ascends, it cools and condenses, leading to cloud formation and heavy precipitation. This process significantly contributes to the region’s exceptionally high rainfall levels.
• The moisture-laden winds, which are drawn from the Bay of Bengal, bring sustained and consistent rainfall, particularly during the monsoon season (from June to September). As a result, Mawsynram receives an average annual rainfall of about 11,871 mm (467 inches), making it the wettest place on Earth.
