There is an ever growing need for conservation of water resources in our country.

1. The rapidly growing population raises the overall daily demand for drinking water, residential use, and municipal services in both urban and rural areas.
2. Erratic and seasonal monsoons limit considerable rainfall to just four months per year, resulting in severe water scarcity throughout the country during the long, dry winter and summer seasons.
3. Massive water waste happens when a large percentage of seasonal monsoon rains flows into the oceans due to poor harvesting infrastructure and a lack of storage reservoirs.
4. Groundwater is being depleted at an alarming rate as a result of over-extraction through deep tube wells for water-guzzling crops such as sugarcane and paddy.
