Punjab receives rainfall in the winter season due to western disturbances. Western disturbances are the low-pressure system due to which temperate cyclones originate in the Mediterranean Sea during the winter season, and these cyclones shift towards the east and reach India. This cause winter rainfall in Northern plain especially in Punjab region.
