4 + x = 2   ...(i)

7 + y = 6   ...(ii)

To find x and y

From equation (ii):

4 + x = 2

x = 2 − 4

x = −2

From equation (iii):

7 + y = 6

y = 6 − 7

y = −1

Hence, x = −2, y = −1
